For Immediate Release

Ottawa, ON – Ziad Aboultaif, Shadow Minister for International Development, issued a statement following today’s Cabinet Shuffle of the Hon. Maryam Monsef into the role as Minister of International Development:

“Today’s Cabinet Shuffle by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is yet another example that this is a government in chaos. Trudeau has repeatedly set up members of his government to fail, and now he is forced to have Minister Monsef add the International Development portfolio to her responsibilities as Minister for Women and Gender Equality.”

“The Prime Minister previously considered the work being done by the Departments of Status of Women and International Development important enough to each have their own Minister to lead them. At a time when the world is seized with humanitarian crisis in places like Venezuela this should be especially critical, however the Liberals have decided that there is no longer a need to have a Minister solely dedicated to International Development.”

“It is disappointing to see Prime Minister Trudeau double down on over promising and under delivering for the world’s most vulnerable people. The Prime Minister can’t say that ‘Canada is back’, when he is damaging Canada’s reputation on the world stage, and putting International Development on the back burner.”

“Canadians can no longer have confidence in this Prime Minister. Justin Trudeau has lost the moral authority to govern and he must now resign.”
